To provide a method for predicting risk of exudative age-related macular degeneration by detecting a single nucleotide polymorphism relating to the exudative age-related macular degeneration, and a kit used for the detection method.

Disclosed is a method for predicting the risk of exudative age-related macular degeneration, which comprises the steps of: detecting in vitro alleles of a single nucleotide polymorphism occurring at position-17 in at least nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of specific nucleotide sequences or a sequence complementary to the nucleotide sequence in a nucleic acid molecule contained in a sample derived from a subject (a detection step); and determining as to whether or not at least one of the alleles detected in the preceding step is a risk allele (a determination step).
