Abstract:

To provide a method for inexpensively producing lactic acid from wastepaper as a raw material.

This method for producing lactic acid is characterized in that the method comprises subjecting wastepaper to enzymatic saccharification to give a saccharide and subjecting the saccharide to lactic acid fermentation, where the lactic acid fermentation is carried out by using a fungus belonging to the genus Rhizopus, a part or the whole of energy required for the lactic acid production is supplied from energy which unreacted wastepaper used as the raw material or wastepaper for auxiliary fuel.
