Abstract:

To provide a method capable of readily producing an optically active 6-sulfonyloxymethyl-1,3-dioxan-4-yl-acetic acid derivative useful as a medicinal intermediate in a short process from inexpensive and readily available raw materials.

A readily available optically active 5,6-dihydroxy-3-oxohexanoic acid derivative is sulfonated in the presence of a base to produce an optically active 5-hydroxy-3-oxo-6-sulfonyloxyhexanoic acid derivative, which is then reduced to produce an optically active 3,5-dihydroxy-6-sulfonyloxyhexanoic acid derivative, which is further acetalized to produce the optically active 6-sulfonyloxymethyl-1,3-dioxan-4-yl-acetic acid derivative.
