Abstract:
To provide a method of producing a plasma-atomized metal powder allowing for obtaining spherical powder having a sufficient fine particle-size distribution with a reduced production cost, and a system therefor.SOLUTION: A method of producing a plasma-atomized metal powder includes: providing a heated metal source; and bringing the heated metal source into contact with a plasma of at least one plasma source under an effective condition for causing atomization of the heated metal source. Atomization may be carried out using a gas-to-metal ratio of nearly smaller than 20, thereby obtaining material metal powder having a 0-106 micron particle-size distribution yield of at least 80%. The present method may further include positioning the heated metal source with a plasma of the at least one plasma source. An atomization system may include a positioning system positioned upstream of the plasma source and adapted to adjust the orientation of the metal source to the at least one plasma source.SELECTED DRAWING: None
