To provide an improved method for producing a 4-substituted resorcinol derivative and an intermediate compound useful for producing the resorcinol derivative.
A compound of formula (6) is obtained by treating a compound of formula (5) or (55) with a base such as 18-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undeca-7-ene in a proper solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide at a temperature near to room temperature. A compound of formula I (a) is obtained, for example, by treating the compound of formula (6) with triethylsilane in the presence of a Lewis acid such as boron trifluoride in a chlorinated solvent and then removing the protecting group under proper conditions, or by hydrogenating the compound of formula (6) under standard conditions. The compound of formula (7) is obtained by treating the compound of formula (5), (5') or (6) with a base such as 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undeca-7-ene in a proper solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide at about 140°C. The compound of formula I (b) can be converted into the compound of formula I (a) under a standard hydrogenation condition.
