PURPOSE: To improve a glossiness producing effect of a surface without reducing a specific volume by cooling a sheet just before an inlet of a roll gap.

CONSTITUTION: A sheet (rolled paper) 1 is successively passed between a high temperature heating roll 2 and a soft roll 3. A temperature of the sheet 1 is lowered down to an environmental temperature or below in a cooling area 5, and the surface of the sheet in the side of the roll 2 is heated with a heating device 7. The sheet 1 left from a roll gap 9 is passed through a cooling roll 13, and heat is removed from the whole sheet. A temperature-gradient between the hot surface of a hard roll and the internal part of the sheet becomes large, and the sheet presents excellent opaqueness and printing suitability while holding its inner specific volume.
