Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING STYRENE POLYMER AND ORGANIC PEROXIDE THEREFOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3965089
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a styrene polymer production method wherein a high-molecular-weight polymer having a low residual monomer content can be produced within a short time when used in the production of a styrene polymer and wherein scale deposition on a polymerization vessel is small in suspension polymerization and to provide an organic peroxide therefor.
SOLUTION: The styrene polymer production process comprises polymerizing a styrene monomer in the presence of a bifunctional perester organic peroxide represented by formula (1): R1-C(O)-OO-R2-OO-C(O)-R1 (wherein R1 is a phenyl group or a 1-13C alkyl group; the carbon atoms except the carbon atom in the α position may have side chains; the two R1s may be the same or different from each other; and R2 is a bivalent 3-8C alicyclic hydrocarbon residue which may be substituted with an alkyl group). The bifunctional perester organic peroxide represented by formula (1) is also provided.
