To solve problems that expansion of scale or an increase in frequency of resin regeneration is required to make purification accuracy compatible with through-put because the diffusion rate of an alcohol in an ion exchange resin is slow and an adequate method is not found even in regenerating a cation exchange resin in purification of the alcohol etc., and to provide a method for purification by which the high-speed purification with high accuracy is made possible and even the regeneration of the ion exchange resin can simply be carried out with the high accuracy.
The method for purification comprises carrying out the purification with the cation exchange resin having ≤8% degree of cross-linking in the method for purifying a water-soluble alcohol containing cationic impurities with the cation exchange resin. Furthermore, the method for purification comprises carrying out a step of replacing the water-soluble alcohol with water or the water-soluble alcohol with an aqueous solution for regenerating the ion exchange resin in a resin bed by passing an ascending current in a regeneration step of the cation exchange resin.
