To provide a method for surface treatment enabling manufacture of an attractive top board or the like by an inexpensive method and, moreover, enabling long maintenance of the grade thereof, and to provide a wood product subjected to this surface treatment.

After a first thermoplastic adhesive 11 is applied on the surface of a wood board 10 such as veneer plywood, a lace 13 constituted of polyester fibers is overlaid on the surface thereof and then a second thermoplastic adhesive 12 is applied. When hot pressing is applied thereafter from the surface side of the second thermoplastic adhesive 12, a pattern of the lace 13 is formed as a pattern 20 of embossing in the surface. A coating 14 of enamel or the like is applied on this surface.
