Abstract:
To provide a method of improving treatment safety when using an α-4 inhibitor in treatment of inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis and asthma, and autoimmune diseases.
The method comprises the steps of: (a) administering a pharmaceutically effective dose of an α-4 inhibitor compound; (b) monitoring a patient about at least one indicator of progressive multifocal encephalopathy; and (C) stopping the administration of the α-4 inhibitor compound if the at least one indicator of progressive multifocal encephalopathy exists, where treatment safety is improved by monitoring. The α-4 inhibitor compound is preferably a phenylalanine derivative.
