Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent a decrease in reliability of a device by recovering with an alternative sector in response to detection of a malfunction at the time of accessing a disk device. CONSTITUTION:Alternative sectors are prepared in disk devices 3, 4. If an access is failed at the time of accessing the devices 3, 4, the corresponding sector is regarded as being defective, the sector is switched to the alternative sector, and disk controllers 5, 6 are controlled so that the accessing the sector thereafter is conducted to the alternative sector. If there is the device having a failure in writing at the time of writing data in a mirrored disk controller 7, the defective sector is removed by switching the alternative sector, data is again written in the switched sector. If reading of data is failed, the sector of the device in which data reading is failed is switched to the alternative sector, and data read from the other device is written in the switched sector.
