PURPOSE: To easily read a display character of a display section by increasing the display character of the display section of the telephone set when the telephone set is contained in a telephone set placing base.

CONSTITUTION: When a telephone set 3 is not contained in a telephone set placing base 5, a hook switch 5a of the telephone set placing base 5 is fixed to be OFF. The state is read by a display control section 3a of the telephone set 3 and as soon as a signal equivalent to a display character, a numeral and other is received from a key operation section 3b, a display section 3c is controlled and the display character is displayed in a usual size on the display section 3c. On the other hand, when the telephone set 3 is contained in the telephone set placing base 5, the hook switch 5a of the telephone set placing base 5 is fixed to be ON. The ON state of the hook switch 5a is read by a display control section 3a of the telephone set 3. As soon as the display control section 3a receives a signal equivalent to a display character from the key operation section 3b, the control section 3a controls the display section 3c to display the display character in a size magnified from the usual size.
