Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a nonlinear optical material which exhibits a large quadratic or higher nonlinear optical effect and has a lower light propagation loss, and a nonlinear optical waveguide element formed by using this material.

CONSTITUTION: This nonlinear optical material is formed by substituting deuterium for at least 70% of hydrogen in a polymer compd. of a nonlinear optical compd.-compounded polymer compsn. formed by compounding an org. nonlinear optical compd. with a polymer material and/or a nonlinear optical compd. carrying polymer compsn. formed by bonding the org. nonlinear optical compd. to a high-polymer compd. This nonlinear optical waveguide element contains the nonlinear optical material in org. nonlinear optical layer.
