The observation apparatus 1 for the medical use is provided with a light source device 5 for irradiating an object successively with the light of red, green and blue, an image pickup device 4 for successively picking up the image of the object irradiated with the light of respective colors by the light source device 5, an image signal processing means 16 for respectively generating an R image signal GR, a G image signal GG and a B image signal GB on the basis of the picked-up images, and an image signal selecting means 17 for selecting a single image signal of excellent contrast from the generated respective image signals GR, GG and GB and outputting the selected single image signal to all RGB image signal output lines 20.
