Abstract:

To provide an optical reading device that is for identifying an identification medium by using a cholesteric liquid crystal, and requires no movable part for switching a circular polarization filter.

An optical reading device reads an image from an identification medium having a cholesteric liquid crystal layer subjected to hologram processing, and an ink printing pattern layer arranged in this order. The optical reading device includes a light-emission unit 12 that has a right circular polarization filter 14 arranged in front of an LED 20, a light-emission unit 13 that has a left circular polarization filter 17 arranged in front of an LED 21, and a control unit 26 that switches light emission between the light-emission units 12 and 13.
