Abstract:
To provide an optical switch which includes a saturable absorber.
An input waveguide 68, an output waveguide 63 and a control beam waveguide 64 are coupled with the saturable absorber 6. When no light is inputted to the control beam waveguide, the saturable absorber prevents the input signal of the input waveguide from being outputted through the output waveguide and holds the switch in the 'off' state. When there is light made incident on the saturable absorber from the control beam waveguide, the saturable absorber outputs the input signal through the output waveguide and holds the switch in the 'on' state.
