A pallet management device 1 for managing a pallet comprises a pallet management section 2 for managing the number of pallets, an inlet side pallet detecting section 3 for detecting a pallet entering an area set in a production line, and an outlet side pallet detecting section 4 for detecting a pallet exiting from the area. An identification area for identifying existence of a pallet in the area is prepared on the pallet management section. An incoming pallet number is notified from the inlet side pallet detecting section to the pallet management section, and the pallet management section sets an identification area of the designated pallet to 1 by receiving the pallet number. The outgoing pallet number is also notified from the outlet side pallet detecting section to the pallet management section, the pallet management section sets an identification area of the designated pallet to 0 by receiving the pallet number, and counting of pallets in the area is derived by counting the number of 1s in the identification area.
