PURPOSE: To obtain new phenylbenzylamines and their physiologically acceptable salts useful as antiarrythmic agents of type III.
CONSTITUTION: Phenylbenzylamines of formula I [A is a group of formula II, formula III, -O(CH2)n- (N or D is bonded to 1,2-phenyl ring); R1 is H or a 1-4C alkyl, X is N or a C-R2 (R2 is NO2, CN, NHSO2CH3, CF3, OCF3 or a group of formula IV); Y is an NR1R3 [R3 is H or a 1-4C alkyl; and phenylbenzlamines of formula V or formula VI (m is 1-3; R4 is H, OCH3 or 1-4C alkyl)] and their physiologically acceptable salts, such as N-[2-(N,N- benzylmethylaminomethyl)phenyl]-4-nitrobenzamide hydrochloride are provided. The compd. of the formula I, such as a compd. wherein A is a group of the formula II or the formula III (with the proviso that R1 being H) is obtained from a compd. of formula VII by conversion into a compd. of formula VIII, reduction to a compd. of formula IX, and further, reaction with a compd. of formula X (Z is =C=O or =SO2).
