PURPOSE: To enhance sensitization efficiency and sensitivity of a photocnductive composition by using a specified sensitizing dye.
CONSTITUTION: The photoconductive composition contains a photoconductor, such as fine zinc oxide particles, a binder resin, such as an acrylic resin, and the sensitizing dye represented by the formula shown on the right in which each of X0 and X1 is O, S, or the like; each of Z0 and Z1 is pyrane, benzopyrane, or the like; each of Y1WY4 is H, an aliphatic group, of the like; R1 is alkyl; each of R2WR4 is H, alkyl, or the like; each of Q1 and Q2 is 4-thiazolidinone, 4-oxazolidinone, or the like; each of L1 and L2 is optionallly substituted methine; A- is an anion; R is 1 or 2; each of m and n is 0 or 1; and p is 0W3. The dye of the formula has an absorption peak in the far or near infrared region, superior stability, and high sensitization efficiency, thus permitting a photosensitive layer superior in sensitivity, sensitization efficiency, and stability to be obtained.
