Abstract:
PURPOSE: To read a picture an optional required extraction quantity without being limited by the extraction quantity of an original exposed part by setting a home position of a carriage (picture read start position) to this side of an extract section in the extracting direction.
CONSTITUTION: A scanner unit 101 used to read an original picture is roughly divided into an A section carrying/discharging a sheet original (automatic draft feeder) and a B section reading a copy original (extract section). In the case of copying a book original, the section B is extracted by a required quantity in matching with the size of the book original and the book original is set onto a contact glass 101f. When a copy start key of an operation panel section is depressed, a scanner control section reads the book original while moving a carriage 101g extracted with the B section and at the home position P1 toward the depth of the reader. In this case, since the picture is read in the digital system, it is not required to extract the B section entirely for the use.
