To obtain a polyketone fiber excellent in strength and modulus by washing a yarn obtained by carrying out wet spinning of a polyketone solution to reduce the content of elements of Zn and Pd, Ni, Co, or the like, to a prescribed ppm or below and drawing the yarn under heating.
A polyketone solution obtained by mixing 0.005-70% polyketone in which ≥90% recurring unit is composed of an alternating copolymer of carbon monoxide with olefin with at last one kind zinc halide aqueous solution or an aqueous solution containing at least one kind of metal salt other than the above zinc halide, which is soluble at ≥1 wt.% concentration in water at 50°C, is extruded from a spinneret and led into a coagulating bath comprising ≥50% water and then washed with an aqueous solution having pH ≤4 so that the content of at least one kind of element selected from the group of Pd, Ni and Co contained in the resultant fiber is ≤100 ppm and Zn element content therein is ≤10,000 ppm and then dried at ≥50°C and drawn to three fold to provide the objective polyketone fiber.
