Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame-retardant thermoplastic resin composition having excellent heat-deflection temperature and impact resistance and useful for various molded articles by mixing a moldable thermoplastic resin with a specific flame retardant
SOLUTION: (A) A moldable thermoplastic resin [e.g. aromatic polycarbonate, polyphenylene ether, polyalkylene terephthalate, polyether-imide (ester), polyamide or styrene-containing polymer, especially a mixture of a polyphenylene ether resin and a high-impact polystyrene] is mixed with (B) a flame retardant consisting of (B1) a low-molecular phosphate having a molecular weight of ≥500, especially 500-2,000 [e.g. a compound of formula (R1 to R4 are each an aryl or an alkaryl; X is an arylene; (m) is 0 or 1; (n) is 1-5)] and (B2) a high- molecular weight phosphate having a molecular weight of ≥2,300, especially 2,300-11,000 [e.g. a compound of formula ((n) is 6-35)]. The mixing weight ratio of B1:B2 is 10:90 to 90:10 and the ratios of the components A and B are 75-97wt.% and 25-3wt.%, respectively.
