Abstract:
To provide five kinds of novel polymorphic crystals of donepezil hydrochloride (1-benzyl-4-[(5,6-dimethoxy-1-indanon)-2-yl]methylpiperidine hydrochloride) having acetylcholine esterase inhibiting activity and being a therapeutic agent for various senile dementias, and in particular, markedly and highly useful as a prophylactic, therapeutic or improving agent for Alzheimer's disease, and a process for industrially producing thereof.
The polymorphic crystals of donepezil hydrochloride (I)-(IV) and (V) expressed by chemical formula (A) characterized in a powder X-ray diffraction pattern and an infrared absorption spectrum are provided. The polymorphic crystals have excellent thermal stability and low hygroscopicity.
