Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten steps, save a considerable amount of time, reduce the industrial cost price and prepare the subject compound useful as a precursor for ceramides in good yield by reacting an alkyl 2-oximino-3-oxoalkanoate in the presence of a hydride.
SOLUTION: An alkyl 2-oximino-3-oxoalkanoate represented by the formula R1-CO-CNOH-COOR2 (R1 and R2 are each an alkyl) is reacted in the presence of a hydride [e.g. sodium bis(2-methoxyethoxy)dihydroaluminate] in a solvent (e.g. toluene), preferably in an inert atmosphere (e.g. nitrogen) at -10°C to the refluxing temperature of the solvent to prepare a 2-aminoalkane-1,3-diol. The hydride is used in an amount of 2-6 mol equiv. based on the alkyl 2- oximino-3-oxoalkanoate.
