Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare fortimicin B useful as a synthetic intermediate of an antibacterial agent, in high yield, by treating a novel aminoglycoside antibiotic, SF- 2052 substance with an alkali.
CONSTITUTION: The objective fortimicin B of formula II is prepared by treating the novel aminoglycoside antibiotic, SF-2052 substance of formula I with an alkali (e.g. 1N-NaOH solution) e.g. at 100°C for 1hr. The starting antibiotic SF-2052 substance can be prepared by the fermentation using e.g. SF-2052 substance-producing bacteria such as Dactylosporangium matsuzakiense SF-2052 strain (FERM-P No. 4670) and Micromonospora SF-2098 strain (FERM-P No.5073).
