Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2,3,6,7,10,11- hexaacetoxytriphenylene (HATP) useful as a raw material for discotic liquid crystal mesogens, etc., from a 1,2-dialkoxybenzene, etc., as raw materials through 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP), capable of producing the HATP in high purity from the crude HHTP without isolating the HHTP.
SOLUTION: This method for producing the 2,3,6,7,10,11- hexaacetoxytriphenylene comprises acetylating crude 2,3,6,7,10,11- hexahydroxytriphenylene obtained by the reaction of catechol with a transition metal compound and containing a 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene metal complex and/or 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene quinone compound, in the presence of a reducing agent.
