Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a high-quality useful as a surfactant excellent in hue while suppressing a by-product.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of a monohalogenoacetic acid or its salt and an aqueous solution of NaOH or KOH are dripped to an amide alcohol of the formula RCONH-CH2CH2O-(CH3CH2O)nH (R is a 7-21C alkyl or alkenyl; (n) is 0-20) and reaction is carried out at 50-100°C under 5-200mmHg to give an amide ether carboxylate of the formula RCONH-CH2CH2O-(CH2CH2O)n-CH2 COOM (M is Na or M). The compound is converted into a Mg salt or a Ca salt if required. The substance obtained by converting the Na salt or K salt into the Mg salt or Ca salt is excellent in foaming and is much more preferably useful as a cleaning agent, etc.
