Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain in high yield the title compound in high purity at low cost in a short time by reaction between dimethylamine hydrochloride and sodium borohydride in a THF solvent mixed with water.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound can be obtained by reaction at 0-30°C between dimethylamine hydrochloride and sodium borohydride using, as reaction solvent, THF mixed with 7-40wt.% of water. The molar ratio of the sodium borohydride to dimethylamine hydrochloride is 1.2-1.4. When compared to the case with using anhydrous THF as the solvent, yield reproducibility can be improved, the amount of the dimethylamine hydrochloride reduced, the succeeding purification made needless, and the granular size of the by-product NaCl increased, leading to facilitating filtration and washing operations.
