PURPOSE: To prevent the breakdown of a thin insulating film occurring in static electricity with a liquid crystal display element of the construction which applies an electric signal to display electrodes via said thin film by providing grounding conductors and releasing the static electricity generated in the orienting treatment stage of an orienting film through said conductors.
CONSTITUTION: The plural display electrodes 22 are formed on a substrate 9 and the 2nd conductors 20 are connected to the electrodes 22 and are connected to the 1st conductors 14 via the thin film 18. The grounding conductors 21 connecting with the 1st conductors 14 are further connected to the electrodes 22. The orienting film 11 is formed over the entire surface of the substrate 9 and the film 11 is subjected to the orienting treatment while the conductors 21 are held grounded. The static electricity generated by friction on both surfaces of the film 11 in the orienting treatment stage is released to the outside via the series circuit constituted of the conductors 21 and the 1st conductors 14. The conductors 21 are then cut, by which the intended liquid crystal display element 8 is obtd.
