To provide a method for producing a semi-aromatic polyamide having excellent color tone and hydrolysis resistance.
This method for producing a polyamide comprising dicarboxylic acid units containing terephthalic acid units in an amount of 60-100 mol.% and diamine units containing 6-18C aliphatic alkylenediamine units in an amount of 60-100 mol.% comprises producing a prepolymer having a reaction rate of 75-97% between the amino groups of the raw material amine and the carboxy groups of the raw material carboxylic acid, a terminal carboxy group [COOH] (mmol/g)/terminal amino group [NH2] (mmol/g) of 150/100 to 50/100 g, and an absolute [COOH]-[NH2] value of ≤0.2 mmol/g, and then melt-polymerizing the produced prepolymer under conditions comprising a temperature of ≤350°C and a melt retention time of ≤5 min., thus producing the polyamide having a reaction rate of ≥98% between the amino groups of the raw material amine and the carboxy groups of the raw material carboxylic acid, a terminal carboxy group [COOH] of ≤0.2 mmol/g and a terminal amino group [NH2] of ≤0.2 mmol/g.
