Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method capable of producing trioxane from formalin by a simplified process with a reduced energy.
CONSTITUTION: This production method for trioxane comprises heating formalin in the presence of an acid catalyst, extracting formed trioxane with a slightly water-soluble organic solvent, supplying the trioxane-containing organic solvent to a vapor-liquid contact part A, taking out trioxane from the bottom of the vapor-liquid contact part, then introducing the vapor of the organic solvent to another vapor-liquid contact part B, bringing the vapor of the organic solvent into contact with formalin in a vapor-liquid state and taking out water and unreacted formaldehyde from the top of the vapor-liquid contact part B to the outside of the system.
