Abstract:

To obtain an unsaturated cyclic ether by bringing a diol into contact with a cobalt-contg. supported catalyst.

This compound, an unsaturated cyclic ether of formula II is obtained by reaction of a diol of formula I [Z is (CHR4)q or (CHR4)q-O, (q) is 0-3; R1-R4 are each H or a 1-4C alkyl] with 1-20wt.% of a cobalt-contg. supported catalyst in a liquid phase at 150-300°C. The catalyst is prepared by bearing one kind of noble metal selected from Co, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Ru, Os, Re and mixtures thereof in an atom ratio of (0.5:1) to (70,000:1) and, optionally, a basic alkali metal (alkaline earth metal) salt, Sc, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ge, Sn, Pb, Bi or a mixture thereof on an inert carrier followed by impregnating the resultant carrier with a sol and then spray coating.
