Abstract:

To provide a recovery method of a polymer having a sulfonic acid group by removing a metal such as zinc used as a reducing agent from a polymerization solution containing a polymer having a sulfonate group obtained by a coupling polymerization reaction using a metal reducing agent, in which the metal is removed with a simple and safe process.

This recovery method of the polymer from the polymerization solution comprises steps: of filtrating the polymerization solution containing the polymer having the sulfonate group obtained by the coupling polymerization reaction using the metal reducing agent, of converting at least a part of the sulfonate group to sulfonic acid group by hydrolyzing the sulfonate group of the polymer contained in a filtrated solution, of precipitating the polymer by mixing the solution containing the polymer having the resultant sulfonic acid group with a poor solvent for the polymer, of conducting an acid treatment bringing the precipitate into contact with an acid in an aqueous acid solution, and of recovering the polymer having the sulfonic acid group.
