To provide a roller chain transmission device having sufficient durability and silencing property even when using it for timing drive for an automobile engine rotating at high speed by optimizing dimension of shapes of a roller chain and a sprocket.
When outside diameter of a roller is D, outside diameter of a pin is d, height of an inner plate is H, and pitch is P, the roller chain satisfies the relation of 0.72P≤D≤0.79P, 0.40P≤d≤0.44P, and 0.96P≤H. In the sprocket, its tooth shape is unsymmetrical on a chain advance side and a chain leaving side for a central line. When radius of tooth bottom part circular arc is R1, radius of tooth shape side face on the chain advance side is R2, and radius of tooth tip part circular arc on the chain advance side is R3, the sprocket satisfies the relation of 0.505D≤R1≤0.505D+0.0693√D, P-(0.505D+0.0693√D)≤R2≤P-0.5053√D, and 0.08≤R3≤0.13P.
