Abstract:

To provide a secondary cooling method capable of uniformly cool a slab without causing an overcooling phenomenon in the surface of the slab when the slab during casting is cooled in the secondary cooling zone of a continuous casting apparatus.

In the secondary cooling method in continuous casting, when the slab 10 cast by a continuous casting machine 1 is subjected to secondary cooling using cooling water or a mixed body of cooling water and a gas in the secondary cooling zone composed of a plurality of cooling zones and provided at the lower part of a mold 5 while supporting the slab 10 by slab supporting rolls 6, the slab is subjected to secondary cooling in such a manner that the water temperature of the cooling water is defined as ≥50°C.
