Title:
SHOCK ABSORBING STEERING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3881859
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing steering device capable of preventing the shrinkage of a steering column before collision and ensuring a predetermined travel amount of a steering wheel when a vehicle collides.
SOLUTION: This shock absorbing steering device 1 has an outer tube 10 and an inner tube 11 in which the steering column 4 is fitted. When the vehicle collides, both tubes 10, 11 slide relatively in the direction of axial length to absorb a shock. Before the collision, both tubes are put in a press-in condition, and tightening the allowance of fitting of both tubes is eliminated during the relative slide when the vehicle collides, thereby reducing slide resistance. A slide load after initial motion can be reduced while ensuring a high initial motion load when absorbing a shock. A joint part 22 of both tubes 10, 11 may be ruptured when the vehicle collides.
