PURPOSE: To produce a silver plated porous hollow yarn having sterilizing properties without clogging due to growth of bacteria by use for filtration of an aqueous solution by carrying out an electroless plating of a porous hollow yarn comprising polyethylene, polypropylene, etc., with a specific amount of silver.
CONSTITUTION: A porous hollow yarn comprising polyethylene, polypropylene or a simple substance or a copolymer of a fluororesin is dipped in a silver salt solution containing a silver salt (e.g. silver nitrate), ammonia and an alcohol and then dipped in a reducing solution containing a reducing agent (e.g. an aldehyde or a hydrazine), an alcohol, etc., to apply 100 wt.% ppm to 1 wt.% of the silver to the hollow yarn. A resin prepared by directly fluorinating polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinyl fluoride, polyvinylidene fluoride, polychlorotrifluoroethylene or polyethylene is cited as the fluororesin.
