To improve ignitability, by securing its staying time long, by gathering an air-fuel mixture to the electrode vicinity of a spark plug in stratified combustion.
This engine has the spark plug 16 arranged in a combustion chamber, and a fuel injection valve 18 arranged so that a tip part faces the peripheral edge of the combustion chamber 6, and points the injection direction of fuel injected from the fuel injection valve 18, to the electrode vicinity of the spark plug 16. The fuel injection valve 18 is provided with a plurality of nozzle ports so as to be positioned in the electrode vicinity of the spark plug 16, and is constituted so as to become mutually different in atomization accomplishing force of the fuel injected from the plurality of nozzle ports. Thus, since the fuel injection valve is constituted so as to become mutually different in the atomization accomplishing force of the fuel injected from the plurality of nozzle ports, a difference is generated in time when fuel atomization injected from the respective nozzle ports reaches the electrode vicinity of the spark plug 16, and as a result, an air-fuel mixture can be made to exist in the electrode vicinity of the spark plug 16 over a long time, and the ignitability in the stratified combustion can be improved.
