PURPOSE: To obtain a stainless steel excellent in heat resistance, corrosion resistance, etc., by forming a selective oxidation film of Al on the surface of an austenitic stainless steel containing specific amounts of Al and then forming a ceramics layer on the above film.
CONSTITUTION: A selective oxidation films of Al is formed on the surface of a stainless steel which has a composition containing 4W6% Al and further containing about 12W22% Cr and about 15W32% Ni and also has a structure composed principally of austenite. The above oxidation film is prepared by subjecting the above stainless steel to heating treatment in the air up to about 900W1,200°C for ≥about 10min. Subsequently, via this oxidation film, a ceramics layer of Al2O3, ZrO2, Si3N4, etc., is formed. This ceramics layer is prepared by means of CVD, thermal spraying, etc. Since the above ceramics layer has superior adhesive strength to the surface of the stainless steel, the stainless steel suitable as material for high temp. use and also material for medical use can be obtained.
