Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter with a compact gearing mechanism and a high gearing characteristic.
SOLUTION: An elasticity restricting member in a rotation restricting member 6 restricting the rotation of a pinion moving body 4 is housed in a frame of an elasticity restricting member holder 62 while being previously warped with application of a load, so that until rotational force of the pinion moving body 4 exceeds the load, the elasticity restricting member is provided with a sufficient rotation restricting function when it is engaged with the pinion moving body 4 for restricting rotation of the pinion moving body 4. When the pinion gear 30 is brought into contact with a ring gear 29 end face and the pinion moving body 4 is prevented from advancing, whole rotational force of an output shaft 3 is applied to the pinion moving body 4, and then, the elasticity restricting member is warped further in the elasticity restricting member holder 62, so that the pinion moving body 4 is allowed to rotate, and consequently, the pinion gear 30 can be engaged with the ring gear 29. Therefore, the rotational force of the output shaft 3 can be surely transformed into the advancing force of the pinion moving body 4 even when the torsion of a helical spline is not so great.
