To provide a method for producing a steel for plastic working provided with a lubricating film which exhibits plastic workability and corrosion resistance equal to or above those of a phosphate-soap film as a representative lubricating film even if the film does not comprise a phosphate.

Disclosed is the method for producing the steel for plastic working whose surface is provided with a film, and the method includes: a stage (a) where a steel member is immersed into an aqueous solution containing a halogen, manganese, the oxygen acid of iron, the salt thereof or the complex salt of iron as an oxidizer, and soap; or a stage (b) where a steel member is immersed into an aqueous solution containing the oxidizer, and thereafter, the steel member is contacted with soap.
