To provide a structure and a method for joining steel pipes together, which ensure rapid and easy joining work and adequate joining strength without the use of an adhesive in a joint part, and are particularly suitable for a tension member for a steel pipe reinforced concrete composite pier.
Characteristically, a male joint pipe installing ring is fixed to an upper end of a lower steel pipe; a male joint pipe, whose outer surface has protrusions or protrusive streaks, in installed in the male joint pipe installing ring; a female joint pipe, whose inner surface has protrusions or protrusive streaks, is installed at a lower end of an upper steel pipe; the male joint pipe is surrounded by the female joint pipe; and high-strength shrinkage-compensating mortar is pressed into a gap between the male joint pipe and the female joint pipe.
