Title:
SUPERFINE TITANIUM OXIDE AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3894597
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce superfine titanium oxide particles having improved yellowing resistance, light resistance and function for protecting from ultraviolet rays by coating the surface of the superfine titanium oxide particles with a slightly water-soluble metal phosphate.
SOLUTION: Superfine titanium oxide particles having 0.01-0.1μm average first particle diameter and nearly spherical shapes are obtained by mixing an aqueous solution of a soluble titanium compound such as titanium chloride and titanyl sulfate with a neutralizing agent to provide a hydrated product, and calcining the hydrated product obtained by neutralizing and hydrating the titanium compound at ≤1,000°C. The objective superfine titanium oxide particles coated with 1-30wt.% slightly water-soluble metal phosphate is obtained by adding phosphoric acid and/or a water-soluble phosphoric acid salt, and a water-soluble metal compound to an aqueous slurry of 1-200g superfine titanium oxide particles per litter, thereafter regulating the pH of the slurry to 4-10, further heating the slurry to 20-100°C to crystallize the slightly water-soluble metal phosphate.
