To provide a method for hardening the surface of a titanium material simply improving the hardness in the vicinity of the surface of a titanium material product without causing the peeling of the surface of the product and to provide a product therefrom.
As for the method for hardening the surface of a titanium material, AlN powder or Al4C3 powder is used as the powder to be brought into contact with the surface 1a of a titanium material 1, and the temp. and atmosphere in the process of heating treatment are regulated, by which Al in the AlN powder or Al4C3 powder is diffused into the surface of the titanium material to form intermetallic compounds such as Ti3Al, TiAl or the like on the surface 1a of the titanium material 1, so that the hardness of the surface can be improved.
