PURPOSE: To easily and accurately set an area which has the size as large as intended by an operator on a hard copy by moving a position indication so that the numeral indicated on the indicator agrees with the set numeral beforehand.

CONSTITUTION: The position indicator has a composition that the size of each element X or Y of orthogonal bidirection components (X and Y components) in moving quantity from the datum position which is voluntarily set, can be indicated on display means OPx, OPy when a frame A is moved by the hand in the voluntarily direction on the surface of a disk D. The moving quantity detection section MD detects moving quantity on the surface of the disk D of the frame A, and separates it into X and Y components. The signal conversion section SE generated the pulse corresponding to these X and Y components. A press button Bp is pressed under the condition in which numerals of displays OPx and OPy agree with numerals set beforehand, the cursor position at that time is fed to the center processor, and the prescribed area is set in the hard copy.
