Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the elution of specified metallic elements and to improve the oxidation resistance of an electrode by processing spherical hydrogen storage alloy to granular state or an electrode, and thereafter producing on the surface of which a porous electro-conductive layer. CONSTITUTION:Respective raw materials misch metals, Ni, Co, Mn, Al of a hydrogen storage alloy are melted in a high frequency induction heating melting furnace, and obtained molten metal is ultrarapidly cooled with a centrifugal atomizing method to manufacture spherical alloy powders. Then the surfaces of the hydrogen storage alloy powders are coated with porous Ni in an electroless Ni plating bath. After hot alkali treating, the alloy powders are mixed with a dilute aqueous solution of carboxymethylcellulose, stirred to make paste-like, and filled in a foamed Ni sheet. Then the sheet is heated, dried and pressed, and the fluorocarbon resin powders are coated on the surface of which to obtain a hydrogen storage alloy electrode. Thereby the elution of specified metallic elements can be reduced and the oxidation resistance of the electrode can be improved to elongate the life time of a battery.
