PURPOSE: To eliminate mis-detection due to time aging change, by facilitating a setting job to a setting material, through the use of a conventional material such as aluminum foil in place of a magnet setting commodity name code and the like.

CONSTITUTION: An automatic setter for commodity name and the like is provided with a commodity name mark holder 2 with a commodity name mark 1, a set position 3 made of a conductor or a magnetic substance 7 is located at the upper side of the mark 1, and a high frequency magnetic field generating coil 4 is provided on a holder 2 corresponding to the position 3. An oscillator 5 as a resonance circuit is connected to the coil 4 and the oscillation state of the oscillator 5 is detected at a change detection section 6. The conductor or magnetic substance 7 located on the position 3 is taken as a material with conventionality such as aluminum foil, therefore the setting of logical 1 or 0 for each digit can be made simply with a guide groove or the like, allowing to prevent mis-detection due to time aging change in case of a magnet.
