PURPOSE: To obtain a CCD type color image pickup element which can produce 3 primary colors from an image pickup plate without reducing the dynamic range for the quantity of light, a blooming suppression rate and the S/N ratio to a dark current by setting the charge storage capacity of vertical and horizontal CCD shift registers to the value corresponding to the effective sensitivity of photodiodes belonging to the registers.
CONSTITUTION: An isolation band 14 is formed at the left side form the center, and vertical CCD shift registers 13-2, 13-4 have large signal charge quantity to be transferred as compared with vertical CCD shift registers 13-1, 13-3. A storage light signal charge of one field period due to incident light to photoelectric converters 7-1∼7-4 depends upon the spectral sensitivity of the photodiode, the type of a color filter laminated on the top of the photodiode and the color temperature of a light source for illumination, and is different between the photodiodes. The charges of the diodes 7-1, 7-4 which have many storage charge amount are fed to the shift registers 13-2, 13-4 having large transfer charge allowance, and the charge of the diodes 7-2, 7-3 which have less storage charge amount are fed to the shift registers having small transfer charge allowance.
