Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a travel safety indicating device useful for safety confirmation at the lane changing time of a traveling vehicle.
CONSTITUTION: A travel safety indicating device 1 has an alarm part 3 for informing the shortage of inter-vehicle distance between an own vehicle mounted with the device 1 and the other vehicle. A memory 7 is prestored with data indicating the relation between the travel speed of the own vehicle and safe inter-vehicle distance to the other vehicle in an optional direction. A radar part 4 detects the other vehicle existing in a specified area on the left or right of the own vehicle in correspondence with the operation of the lateral winker switches of a direction indicator 2 and measures the inter-vehicle distance to the other vehicle in each direction. An arithmetic processing part 6 obtains the safe inter-vehicle distance to the other vehicle in each direction from the data stored in the memory 7 on the basis of the travel speed measured by the speed sensor 8 of the own vehicle and the measured data of the radar part 4 and makes the alarm part 3 inform the shortage of the inter-vehicle distance when the inter-vehicle distance measured by the radar part 4 is shorter than the safe inter-vehicle distance.
