PURPOSE: To obtain a TV game machine capable of increasing the powerfulness of a game and enabling the long-time enjoyment thereof by enabling character appearance and a background on a screen to be changed at a player's own will.

CONSTITUTION: There are provided a TV camera 3 for photographing a character and scenery, and a microcomputer 8 for converting an image signal from the TV camera 3 to image data. Image data as game software stored in a memory 10 is read out by the microcomputer 13. Furthermore, a portion related to a character or scenery is discriminated and erased from the read image data, on the basis of an image type signal inputted from the camera 3. Also, image data inputted from the microcomputer 8 is edited for assignment to the aforesaid erased image data portion, and again stored in the memory 10.
